Read and Resist: A banned book tabletop role playing game

  • ROOTS Teen Center 51 Ashland Street North Adams, MA, 01247 United States (map)

Love tabletop games? Concerned about censorship? Teens are invited to join us for a special ROOTS presentation of Read and Resist: A Banned Book Tabletop Role Playing Game.

Read and Resist is set in a town run on the power of books: they act as keystones, they give citizens purpose and power, the inner fountain of the town flows with magic ink, providing life and love and energy. Suddenly, all the books are stolen and the fountain runs dry. The plants in town die out. The citizens lose their abilities. The town is dying. Teen Players must find the stolen books (all banned books in the real world), and each one they save gives them tools and powers to defeat the evil destroying their town.

Read and Resist is powered by Authors Against Book Bans, a coalition of authors, illustrators, editors and contributors standing against the political repression of literature. This event will be hosted by Colleen AF Venable, local author of graphic novels for children and young adults and creator of, among other works, Kiss Number 8 and Katie The Catsitter.
